ICETA 2015

Dr. Ambrosch is acting as the ERA Chair for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) at the University of Žilina, Slovak Republic. This is a lighthouse project of the European Research Area (ERA) funded by the European Union.

The professional life of Dr. Ambrosch includes work for several universities as well as in industry and SMEs. During the last decades his main interest was to convert knowledge into commercially used systems and products.

He was leading the largest non-university research company for energy and mobility in Austria,arsenal research, from 2008 to 2012.He restructured the company, organised national and international research projects, and finally merged it into the mother company AIT - Austrian Institute of Technology. During these four years arsenal research grew steadily (despite the crisis) from about 150 to more than 260employees, mainly researchers, and improved its economic performance significantly.

Since 2001 Dr. Ambrosch is working in international standardisation of Intelligent Transport Systems and since 2011 he is the convenor of the Austrian standardisation committee for ITS, mirroring CEN TC278 and ISO TC204.

Ambrosch: “It is of utmost importance to deal with the great challenges for our future. We will have to satisfy the personal and economical need for mobility in a world that has to reduce energy consumption and decarbonise all its processes. So using SMART technologies/systems will be one of the elements for surviving with good quality of life. This will be based on technology- and ICT-based approaches taking into account also the aspirations of the citizens in terms of affordability, privacy, reliability, safety, and usability (intentionally grouped alphabetically! – people mightrank them differently).”

Intelligent Transport Systems – More than ICT in Mobility?

In a world of improving connectivity and using more and more ICTs also personal mobility is affected. We are not surprised that it is possible to get the information from various devices and items including vehicles and analyze everything close to real time. This enables insight into the traffic situation of a city or region, real time correction to the schedule of public transport, and intermodal journey planning.

But is this sufficient? We are assisted by means of different ICTs in passenger vehicles: driver assistance, infotainment, safety applications like eCall, cars warning each other about dangerous situations and possible collisions up to self-driving (autonomous) vehicles. Sensors, cameras, etc. are with us and around us, some of them are used to quantify our private life. All this is already available and besides the price just legal issues as well as questions of liability and reliability are slowing down the deployment of autonomous vehicles.

For the citizen on the other hand new skills are required to benefit from these developments which may be quite difficult for some groups of society. Thus inclusive mobility – “mobility for all” – is a societal challenge including learning aspects. Another focal point is the issue of data protection and privacy when collecting, processing, combining, evaluating, and using “Big Data”. This is leading also to a discussion where the value of the information – not data! – comes from and who is allowed to collect it.

The future will tell which solutions will result in inclusive mobility and what we have tocontribute to it.

Mária Bohumelová achieved her Master degree in Music Education at the Pedagogical Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava. Then, she completed her MBA study at the City University of Seattle. During her career, she worked as the Director of the Office of the Vice-president of City University of Seattle as well as for Deloitte Tax and Slovenská pošta.

As a Fulbright scholar she studied Arts Management in USA. Since November 2010 she is the director of Research and Development department of the Slovak National Gallery. Here Mgr. Bohumelová coordinates research which includes effective documentation and recording of visual arts’ cultural heritage, its implementation and development of information technology and digitization of SNG collections. She is also a project leader in the extensive Digital Gallery project, financed by the Operational Programme Information Society. Since 2012 she is an external PhD. student of Knowledge Management at Vysoká škola manažmentu in Trenčín..

Digitizing Art toPromoting theCultural Heritage

Our article points to the importance of the emerging role of museums in the 21st century, their ability to guide people in visual chaos they live in, to educate and mentor their perception about the hidden qualities of our cultural heritage.

Slovakian museums and galleries in are often reflected by general public, and especially by the young generation, as old fashioned stone buildings presenting uninteresting exhibits. These institutions are rarely perceived as technologically developed, inspiring and modern information centers. Even many educated people consider visiting them once a year as a sufficient toll to their status. Visiting the museums and galleries is usually not taken for knowledge enrichment – it is rather reflected as a bonus to social-culture lifestyle or, in the worst case, as some sort of duty.

At the same time, there are no doubts about the universality and value of art's language. It gives an opportunity for obtaining unexpected knowledge and experience independently of any country boundaries. Employees of museums and galleries are qualified experts with deep familiarity with different areas of humanities and their relationship to history, science and engineering.

Therefore museums and galleries worldwide are starting to implement knowledge management tools and techniques into their internal processes in order to make them more open both internally and externally. Our presentation discusses the potential of using digital technologies in a similar way. To demonstrate them, The Slovak National Gallery’s Web of Art will be presented not only as a collection of digitalized masterpieces but also as a base for contemporary creativity development. Experiences from Cultural Hackhathon(a “hacker’s marathon”) will be presented – an integral part ofthe Slovak National Gallery during its unique exhibition entitled “Retention of World” intertwining digital technologies and curatorial visions.

The Incubator of the Innovative Teachers - Mobile Science Laboratory with the Innovative Technology

The Incubator of the Innovative teachers is the unique pilot project of the Comenius University, supported with Microsoft Company. The main idea of project is the new quality of future teachers for school of future. The mobile devices with windows platform and application, with the measuring sensors for science experiments and special software are the new chance for:

• comeback the real experiments into science education in school – the mobile laboratory with new teaching methods
• motivation for student to study science
• professional class management with mobile device for teacher
• new communication in Cloud application
• connecting the formal and informal education for future teachers
• join together innovative teachers from praxis with theoretical study the future teachers (discussion forum, tee in incubator, round table, workshop…)

Ing. Dzbor Martin, PhD. acting as Director of Strategy and Development at T-Systems Slovakia, Ltd. since 2009, with responsibility for the strategic development of the largest employers in the ICT sector in the region of Kosice. During his service in company ,he implemented the pilot project of the dual education for IT, which is currently studying 80 pupils. Also implemented in the company several research projects, develop a concept of portfolio diversification ICT services provided by the T-Systems from Košice.

Dr. Dzbor is a member of sectorial councils of the National Qualification System and the National System of Occupations and the newly formed sector councils for ICT at the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports. HE is also board members of organizations that support the development of ICT industry and vocational education, for example. IT Association of Slovakia, Junior Achievement Slovakia and Košice IT Valley.

Dr. Dzbor graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Technical University in Kosice. Before entering senior management to T-Systems, he worked in research as senior researcher at UK, where he also received his doctorate and MBA.

Labor market in ICT sector of Kosice self-government region with relation to the regional professional ICT education system.

The study concern issues of stabilization and development of jobs and education in the field of information communication technologies (ICT) for Kosice Self-governing Region (KSK). Study measured the size of the ICT labor market, its structure, the dynamics of the main areas at demand and supply side. It pointed to the economic importance of the ICT sector in the regional economy (the sector represents 7.5% of employment with the second most important figures after Bratislava region). The study showed high rate of growth demand for new positions in the ICT sector (1,400 jobs per year in 2014), but also a remarkable discrepancy in the quantity and structure of the graduates for the region's ICT sector (540 graduates of vocational schools and universities for the year 2014). It has developed potential methodological and organizational approach to diminish this threat (gap) with aim to align the demand and supply for skilled ICT workforce by educational system. Specifically present development of the dual model of vocational training in ICT in the context of the new Slovak legislation for vocational education.

Jozef Hvorecky is a Professor at the School of Management in Bratislava, Slovakia. He is also a Honorary Lecturer for the Laureate program of the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. The latter covers the entire planet by its online courses. During 45 year of his career, he taught at 17 universities in 12 countries of all continents.

As the author and coauthor, he has published 26 books and textbooks and more than 120 papers in journals and conference proceedings. His recent books are: Database Technologies (accompanied by a Problem Solver as its 2nd volume), Virtual Classroom (on effective online learning), and Last Will of a Researcher (on university management). He is keen of new educational technologies. For example, the Database Technologies textbook refers to his 30 lectures on YouTube; a memory key attached to its problem solver contains more than 200 sample databases.

Tomáš Janotík works as Labor Market Analyst for Profesia (Slovakia's largest job portal and leader in online recruitment). His main responsibilies at this position are quantitative analysis of the behavior of labor market participants (job candidates and firms), application of statistical methods to labor market data for predictive modeling, preparation of economic forecasts and investigation of trends in various industries or market segments. The main focus of his work is developing tailor-made data products for customers in HR area which they can utilize in optimization of their hiring processes. He finished his Master’s degree in Economics at the University of Amsterdam (Faculty of Economics and Business). Besides working at Profesia, he is currently also a Ph.D. candidate at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague where he participated in teaching courses of Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Statistics at both graduate and undergraduate levels. His research interests belong to the area of Labor Economics: he currently works on developing systematized methodology for measuring labor market performance.

Current labor market trends in thearea of Information Technology in Slovakia

The aim of the paper will be to describe recent development of the labor market in IT area.

Trends in labor supply and as well as labor demand will be discussed. The primary focus will be made on current tendencies in recruitment - how the job requirements of companies are changing and how their HR strategies respond to contemporary challenges on the labor market. We will also concentrate on characteristics of job candidates in IT and shifts in their preferences.

Gabriel Juhás is a full professor of Applied Informatics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (FEI STU). He was the dean of the FEI STU from February 2011 to January 2015. He is also the garant of the study program Applied Informatics at FEI STU. Previously, he has been working at several universities in Germany, namely TU Berlin, KIT Karlsruhe and KU Eichstätt-Ingolstad, where he received his habilitation. His main research interest are Petri nets and their applications in process modelling, process analysis, process mining and process discovery as well as analysis of Big Data. He is a co-founder of Interes.Institute, a platform for eduation, research and innovations in IT.

Post draduate development: an intriguing journey from a graduate to the IT professional

On one hand, the universities typically offer the graduate programmes and degrees in computer science, computer engineering and information technology, on the other hand, IT companies look for IT professionals in dozens of different positions, such as programmers/developers, analysts, consultants, administrators, databases pecialists, testers etc. For many positions, a degree in computer science or related discipline is just a necessary, but far not sufficient condition, deep knowledge in specific areas and technologies as well as several years of experience after graduation are required. At the same time, a lot of discussions about neccessity of cooperation between academia and praxis has been done. Observing that the university study is a quite structuted process and the requirements for particular positions are (more or less) clearely formulated with the attempt to standardize them, the process in between – here called post graduate development – is fairly unstructured, ad hoc and individual from case to case. One of the possible answers from academia in several countries, such as Australia, Great Britain, USA and Netherlandis so called professional doctorate as an alterantive to the PhD degree, to close the gap between the requirements of IT job market and the graduation at the university. We discuss the issue of post graduate development of IT professionals with the aim to answer in a structured way not only what should be the skills for particular positions, but also how they can be gained.

Trends in Computer Architectures

E-learning is nothing else than learning supported by Information and Communication Technology (ICT). If we would like to forecast future trends in e-learning, we have to understand also the future trends in ICT. Trends in computer hardware and architecture will be presented in this lecture, as they can be recognized from identified drawbacks of recent computers and new achievements in nanotechnology. Computers, as we know them, are based on three cornerstones: Boolean logic, von Neumann architecture and transistor as a switching element. All these aspects limit computer performance toenergy consumption ratio compared to the human brain. Man is not so fast in algorithmic thinking using exact terms, but he can think intuitively with fuzzy meaning of words. Boolean values for True and False are implemented as analog values while brain uses spike trains. Von Neumann computer architecture has liberated programs from hardware processing circuits, and stored them as a data to the memory, but this transfer takes some time. On the other hand neural network in the brain is naturally massive parallel structure, where processing and memory is located to the same place. Since 1947 the transistor is a principal component in computing implementation. Volatility of the transistor leads to enormous energy consumption comparing to the brain. Non-volatile elements and spike-like computing gives some promise to achieve brain efficiency in the future. But future is not in replacing old architectures by new ones. It is about coexistence of algorithmic computing with cognitive computing. These general trends are mirrored in recent experiments with CPU support by hardware accelerators, and the lecture gives several examples.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ľubica Stuchlíková studied at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. She works as a teacher at Institute of Electronics and Photonics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia. Her fields of interest are electrical characterization of semiconductor structures, devices and materials since 1990 and computer aided engineering education, retraining, lifelong learning since 2000. She is the author (or co-author) of over 100 papers and journal articles in these fields.

In year 2004 she established educational portal „eLearn central“ asa co-author. Original interactive animations, educational and popularization elearning courses and modules have been created for portal “eLearn central” by “eLearn central team”. She is head of this team and also cooperates with other teams in development of elearning projects using platform Moodle.

Through ICT and New Pedagogical Approaches to Skills for Key Enabling Technologies

This article deals with the issue of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs), representing a basis for innovative approaches shifting to a greener economy and Europe’s industrial modernisation. Requirements to prepare university graduates as highly skilled KETs professionals, is are becoming more and more important. Facing this challenge authors see the solution in effective application of ICT and new pedagogical approaches.

Ing.Juraj Ťapák is a graduate of the State electrical University in St. Petersburg, Faculty of automation and computer technology. He worked in various positions in the implementation and operation of IT. He has years of experience of managerial work in global organizations (including UNDP), multinationals (Embraco, Hewlett Packard) and the government (Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family). In the present he works as Specialist of local strategies for T-Systems Slovakia, Ltd and he was co-author and executor of the pilot project implementation of ICT dual education.

Ing.Ťapák is participating in the sectorial councils focused on the ICT industry, for example the national project "Development of secondary vocational education (RSOV)".
